MARIA ARANTZAZU ORTIZ GONZALEZ

Ms Ortiz was appointed to the Judiciary in 2003 after successful completion of open judicial examinations.

In May 2008, she became Resident Judge at the Commercial Court in the province of Tarragona. Since then, her caseload has been commercial litigation, in particular insolvency, company matters, transport, intellectual property, and competition law.

Since 2011, she has been assigned to the commercial section at the Court of Appeal Balearic Islands. This Court hears appeals and matters of jurisdiction.

Ms Ortiz is a member of the Faculty of the Judiciary College and has contributed to various Spanish General Council for the Judiciary roles including at an international level.

She has been in demand as a speaker at Conferences on insolvency and competition law-related matters organized by associations of lawyers, economists, and other experts.

She has worked as teacher for European Training Judicial Network among other with the presentation “Update of the protection of the passengers’ rights as consumers. Travelling from UK and EU countries. The European Commission proposal” since 2020.

Her published work includes many collective works about collusion in bankruptcy matters, the sale of productive units in bankruptcy proceedings, international appeals, insolvency courts, public administration, and commercial agreements.

Currently, her work deals with joint claim management instruments both in competition and consumers’ protection law cases.
