Robert Vanhattum

Robert van Hattum is an attorney in the mass claims practice at De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek. Since the inception of class actions in the Netherlands. De Brauw has been involved in nearly all major mass claims across various areas of law.


Robert specializes in class actions related to data privacy and competition. With his extensive background in complex litigation, he oversees the day-to-day management of many of De Brauw's high-profile class action cases. This includes acting as defence counsel to Salesforce in a class action alleging EUR 10 billion in damages for GDPR infringements, and representing cybersecurity firm Avast and online retailer Amazon in other GDPR focused class actions. Additionally, Robert represents Philips in multiple claims concerning alleged infringements of competition law in the cathode ray tube market.

Robert frequently lectures on procedural law and contracting at the University of Amsterdam. He also lectures on the Dutch class action redress mechanism (the WAMCA) at the Academy of Legal Practice.


Beyond his work in the class action practice, Robert is dedicated to pro bono work, having assisted numerous clients including The Invictus Games, FOAM, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and Stichting Kinderoncologische Vakantiekampen.
